Great players deserve recongition regardless of club and Zanetti is truly one of the greats. Such an elegant warrior and best hair in football, he could've been a old time Hollywood star!

I can't believe this has gone under the radar..guy is an absolute legend and a model professional, could be wrong but I really don't recall anything bad being said about him. He has to be a freak of nature though, who the hell plays for that long and on that level!?

They don't make players like Javier Zanetti anymore. Hard but fair, loyal, humble and the ultimate pro both on and off the field. Inter Milan should retire his number.

Great man great player, Legend in the game. That classic jawline and comb over will be missed.

Legend status is thrown around a lot in this day and age, but Zanetti is certainly a player who's earned it.

The best RB I have ever seen. I went to the San Siro in Sept 2003 to watch Inter vs Sampdoria and Zanetti was MotM. He was miles ahead of everyone else in positioning and fitness. He just seemed to stand out as different class from the rest on the pitch. I suspect he could have played at any position for either team that day and been MotM.

He's got it all, the skills, the longevity, the looks, the hair. Perfection.

What a man, what a pro, what a player, what a model.
For me, he's been the best full back I've seen, I bet Pep looked at Lahm and thought he could turn him into Javier.

Legendary player. One of the greats and so loyal to Inter. Sad to see him finally go out, but at least he came back and went out on his own terms. One of the finest full backs I have ever seen.

The definition of consistency, right down to his immaculate side parting. Probably my favourite rightback of all time.

A true legend.

Everybody in football respects this guy.

I don't know what else is to say about Zanetti. He's already the greatest RB in the history of Argentina. He's a gentlemen everywhere. But still? I watch Inter and Zanetti is still the most consistent player on the pitch. I've never seen a player maintain a consistent level like Zanetti. He's shifted from RB to LB to CM to RM over his time at Inter and he still looks perfect everywhere. He even shut down Messi to a brilliant degree in the 2009 CL when he was 36. Zanetti still makes huge sprints running by players and beating them like he was 23. He's 38.
